The Beginner Band is the starting place for all band students. The band is separated into individual class periods that meet at different times of day for each instrument to teach music from the very beginning. No prior musical experience is needed! We teach everything starting from how to read music to how to lay their selected instrument. While each instrument is taught at different times of day, the band still comes together to practice as a full group to prepare for concerts and festivals that happen multiple times throughout the year.
The 7th Grade Band is for students in or entering their 2nd year of playing. This band introduces the concepts of playing as a full band, and expands the knowledge of concepts on their instruments. This Band participates in multiple concerts and contests. The students in the 7th grade band audition for the ATSSB All-Region audition and Clinic and will participate in a Solo and Ensemble Contest within the spring semester.
The 8th Grade Band is for students in or entering their 3rd year of playing their instrument. This band plays the most advanced music and prepares for concerts and contests, including the UIL concert and sightreading contest during the spring semester. Students participate in a Solo and Ensemble contest and prepare for the ATSSB Middle School All-Region audition and clinic.
The Junior High Jazz Band is an optional ensemble formed of interested students in their 2nd and 3rd year of playing. They learn the basics of Jazz, Rock, and swing, and perform multiple times a year at contests and concerts to perform fun jazz songs. The jazz band's goal is to expose students to new and fun music and give students a chance at playing a second instrument within the band. No jazz or concert band experience is needed. The only requirement for enrollment is one year of beginner band.
